The November 1st Deadline is upon us!  If you're like many of the students I work with, you're spending this week getting in last minute edits and revisions before you submit your application this coming Tuesday.  Take a break, clear your brain and read this simple checklist before you push that "Submit" button!  Good luck to each of you!

A Few Tips Before You Submit:

#1: Print out your application and proof read a hard copy before you submit. Have a friend, your mom or dad, or a teacher/counselor read over it, as well.  You can never have too many eyes helping you out.

#2: Re-read and print your essay(s). Be sure that you have a teacher, counselor or consultant read over each essay(s). You want to be positive that your writing is free of grammar and spelling errors and that you clearly answer each prompt.

#3: Don't forget to request official transcripts and test scores be sent to each college you apply to. This should happen either before, or immediately after, you submit your admission application.  Request transcripts from your high school office and test scores from collegeboard.org or act.org.

#4: Save a copy of each document you plan to submit. For colleges that request resumes, extra-curricular lists, or additional "special submissions", be sure you save a copy of these documents for your own records.  If you're sending a hand-made art piece, scan it and save it to your computer.

#5: Follow through with your submissions. You should hear something from each school you apply to within a week.  Chances are, if you don't hear a "thank you for applying..." message, the school didn't receive your application.  Check your email or personal college account to verify that each application was submitted and successfully received.
